"It is difficult to accurately describe Pantheist Echoes, the brainchild of Tennessean Chris Carothers. It’s far more than a message board or a Facebook group, and it would be wrong to describe it as a musical collective, even though many of its members frequently do collaborate in a number of projects. It’s rather more like a gathering space severed from any tangible location, where like-minded (and occasionally not so like-minded) musicians, label-heads, bloggers, and fans gather to share beloved tracks and passion projects, and discuss topics ranging from beer to black metal to, well, pantheism.
This CD, compiled by Carothers and Acephale Winter’s own Jacob Thomas, is an effort to document a small portion of the talent on display in the group on a daily basis. The music ranges from hoarse, post-rocking blackgaze, to instrumental riffs that stretch towards alpine heights, to scuzzy blackened punkiness, all within the first three tracks. Before the disk comes to a close we encounter plenty of raw yet atmospheric BM, ritual neo-folk ambience, and even Acephale Winter’s first alt-country track.
We couldn’t be more proud of this compilation or more grateful for the bands that contributed to it."
